6.1 Magnitude Earthquake hits Honduras

A report less than an hour old, from the Brazilian news source O Globo, and datelined Tegucigalpa, says it was felt over much of the country but centered on the north coast. Reportedly, it damaged at least 20 houses.

The damage is said to be in rural areas. The epicenter of a smaller tremor preceding the major one is described as in San Luis, 160 km Northwest of Tegucigalpa. This is most likely in the Department of Santa Barbara, south and west of San Pedro Sula.

Update: Diaro DigitalRD (Dominican Republic) confirms that San Luis, Santa Barbara, was the epicenter of one of the quakes. The other they say was centered in La Rosa, Yoro, which is at the base of the Aguan River Valle, east of San Pedro Sula. An article in La Tribuna shows these points on a map.

Another article reports the damaged house count as at least 100, described as rural houses of mud and pole construction.
